Zimbabwe Emergency Relief

Cyclone Idai ravished through Mozambique and parts of Zimbabwe in mid-March, destroying many homes due to strong winds and excessive rain – leaving families without food, water, basic hygiene products and medicine. Penny Appeal South Africa is providing emergency relief in affected areas.

This past weekend #TeamOrange embarked on a journey to Zimbabwe to lead the food distributions in Chipinge and Bohera. After a long journey between Harare and the Chimanimani district, a car breakdown, long hours and blistering heat conditions the Team finally reached the areas with as much as 400 food packs going out to those in need. #TeamOrange gave out 250 food packs in Tongogara Refugee Camp and 150 packs in Bohera. One pack is able to feed a family of four for approximately a month. The packs included oil, sugar, salt, maize meal, flour, soya, water and hygiene products.

We are still aiding Cyclone Victims with your support and have also set up a drop-off point for donations of tinned items (baked beans, sugar beans, tinfish and sardines); nappies for babies of different ages as well as sanitary wear. Items can be dropped at the Penny Appeal SA offices – 565 Peter Mokaba Ridge, Essenwood, Durban or donations can be made here: https://pennyappeal.org.za/projects/emergency-response/cyclone-idia-relief/
